Edward scissorhand

Edward Scissorhand`` 12

Edward Scissorhand is a film which was released in 1990 and was a romantic fantasy film. It was a very popular film for its time and it still is quite popular film today. It might not appeal to as many people as it used to, but you have to remember how old it is and give it a credit for that. It is a mixture between romance, fantasy and a bit of sci-fi.
Edward Scissorhand was a romantic, fantasy film with a bit of horror and sci-fi . I know that it was a romantic fantasy with a bit of sci-fi because you can’t create a life form from scratch. You most defiantly can’t have scissors instead of your hands! I know that it was romantic because there was a setting of romance, with the sun setting and then Kim bog, who was Peg’s daughter said that she loved Edward. Also she got really upset when Edward had to leave. I know that it had a bit of sci-fi because it had a mad scientist in it which was an inventor and the guy created Edward. He created many other things it was just like Frankenstein which was sci-fi film as well. I know that it is a horror film because to some people it might feel scary for them because of the scissors and the fact that Edward looks really scary. That is why I think that it was a romantic fantasy with a bit of sci-fi and horror.
In Edward Scissorhand, Peg who is Kim’s mum was a rep of a beauty company and no one wanted her products. So then her last resort was to go to the hunted house on top of a hill which everyone was scared of. She was going to sell her product and then she found Edward and took him home, she wanted to help him look beautiful. Everyone was scared of him because he had scissors as hands until they found out that he could cut hedges, dogs hair and peoples hair really well. Everyone loved Edward until he was tricked in to doing something bad. Edward now has to regain his reputation to be able to stay with Peg’s family…
The film was set in the past in Burbank, California. The set was meant to make you feel paranoid with the colour of the houses. It was like a little fantasy world where everything went right and nothing much happened. Until Edward came to town. It was set in 1950s. They spent a lot of money trying to make you have the paranoid feeling they also made the window sizes smaller.
The main characters in the film are:
Edward
Edward is played by Johnny depp. Edward is a fantasy character who has scissors on his hand and looks scary but he is really nice underneath. He was created by a scientist, just like Frankenstein. Edward falls in love with Kim but in the end he has to leave and go back to the hunted house on top of a hill because the town chased him away. Edward plays the stock character of someone who is different and not all together in the world. I like this character because he is nice and scary at the same time and I think that is what makes him cool. He is very important in this film.
Winona Ryder
Winona Ryder plays the part of Kim bogs who is the daughter of peg bogs. All of the boys in her town like her and they all think that Edward is really weird. At the beginning she is a little judgmental on Edward but then she finds out that he isn’t that bad after all. She plays the stock character of the prince’s girl who every boy likes. I think that this character is ok because she is nice but I think that she could get stuck in to some more action like car chases and things. I think that this character is very important to the film.
Dianne Wiest
Dianne plays the part of peg that is married and has one daughter Kim and a son Kevin. She works as an Avon representative in her town. She finds Edward and puts make up on his face to cover his scars and takes him hope in her car and looks after him until he has to leave. This character is ok I don’t think that she is the best but in the middle somewhere. she is nice and has a warm hart but can sometimes get a bit annoying. She is very important in this film

Anthony Michael Hall
Anthony plays the part of Jim who is a thug. He is really nasty to people and people are scared of him. Kim Dumps him in the end because he is so mean to Edward and frames him for something that Edward didn’t do. Jim gets really angry and pick on Edward whenever he can. He plays a stock character of a young hooligan. I don’t mind this character because he is crazy which is kind of cool but is not very nice but I suppose that is what makes him who he is. This is a very important character.
These are who I think are the main characters in Edward Scissorhand.
The theme of this film is a mixture between growing up, loneliness and relationships. I think that it I to do with growing up because they are all about 16 and about to become adults. I think that it is to do with loneliness because Edward is very lonely when he is in the hunted house and when he comes down to civilisation he is a kind of out cast and people take advantage of this. I think that is to do with relationships because you never know who you like and who you can trust and you have to expect the unexpected when it comes to new friends and relationships. The film makes me think about try to make friends with people who are not all together or have a disability.
The techniques of film production are the colours of the houses. They are all in different colours and how it makes you feel really paranoid over a period of time. The shots of people’s faces were really good as well when they zoomed up in to people’s faces and took long shots of places like the hill from a long way away. I think that worked really well to. The effect of this I think was to make you feel really weird and not right. I think that Tim Burton made the film this way because it is kind of what he does and his style of the films he makes.
I think that Tim Burton aimed this film at children and young teenagers. I think that this is aimed at these types of people because it is kind of childish but a bit scary for young children so I think it is kind of in the middle. I think that he has aimed it at younger children because they are the people who are most likely to buy films at their age because you don’t see many adults buying films.
I enjoyed the film personally because it was something different and not normal. I also liked it because it was old fashioned and it was a cool change to our new films we get today. The film affected me by making me think who is someone who I can be nice to and not just kick them out of my friends group just because they have a disability. One of the situations that I have been in was when I got framed for something that I didn’t do and I had to suffer the consequences.
All in all I think that it was a really good film because it was a change for what we see today and it was quite educational to learn about how films used to look.
